Creating a Theory of Change is like writing a pop banger [Crosspost > TASO]
Last month I wrote a guest article for The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) about how to write a Theory of Change using TASO’s Mapping Outcome and Activities Tools (MOATs).
In it, I described how writing a Theory of Change in some ways is like writing a song. I like the metaphor because for me, evaluation is part art, part science. We are trying to communicate ideas and thoughts to a wider audience, and sometimes it can feel exposing.
This is why I stick to singing Britney Spears covers on my acoustic guitar in the spare room when the house is empty.

I’m sharing it here because it I’m hoping it resonates with others dabbling in the research and evaluation world, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences too.
Going forward, I’ll be writing similar reflective pieces here, along with other blogs and articles. I hope you enjoy them.
